Registry entries are the problem

Lotus Notes Version 8.5.2FP2

I had this same issue when I installed Google Chrome and then decided to go back to IE. The links in Lotus Notes were still opening Chrome. I found the issue was due to the following registry entries not getting set back to IE.

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\http\shell\open\command
(Default) = "C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe"

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\https\shell\open\command
(Default) = "C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe"

They were both still pointing to chrome.exe even after setting IE as default on computer. Lotus Notes uses these settings when you click on a hyperlink and you have your settings to use default browser.

Please note that if you are not using x64 bit OS then don't use the "Program Files (x86)" folder that I am showing in my example. It is best if you just find where you are running your iexplore.exe from on your computer and use that location in the registry entry.

You may need to restart Lotus Notes after you change these entries. In my case the changes took effect without restarting Lotus Notes.
